Prosthodontics is a
specific branch of dentistry that is concerned with the restoration
and replacement of teeth. This is accomplished through the
restoration of natural teeth and/or by the replacement of
missing teeth. A Prosthodontist is a dentist who specializes
in restoring natural teeth and creating and placing natural-looking
substitute or prosthetic teeth. After completing four years
of dental school, prosthodontists receive three years of specialized
training in an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited
graduate education program. Because of this additional training,
prosthodontists have additional proficiency’s in all
areas of cosmetic dentistry, as well as dental implants, restorative
and reconstructive care. The primary forms of tooth replacement
performed by prosthidontist are with partial or complete removable
dentures. Today the most advanced form of tooth replacement
is the dental implant, which looks, feels, and functions exactly
like the tooth it replaces.
